Finish what you plan. One day at a time.

To-do lists only ever get longer. todao works the other way: each morning you commit to as many tasks as you actually get done in a day, and each night it shows you how much of that promise you kept.

how it works

Three steps. Every day.

  1. 1 · Until 13:00

    Promise.

Settle yesterday, then pick the few tasks you can truly finish today and decide what matters most. Until 13:00 the plan can still change.

  2. 2 · 13:00 to 21:00

    Deliver.

Do the work and mark each task honestly. You can add to the day as it unfolds, but a promise can't be quietly dropped.

  3. 3 · From 21:00

    Rest.

The day closes and the verdict is in: finished tasks count for you, unfinished ones against you. No guilt carried over, tomorrow starts clean.

Finish whole days and your level rises, so you can promise more; overreach, and the app asks for less. Your day grows with your track record, not your optimism.

A goal in todao, 'Pass Spanish at B2': 11 days left, 11 of 15 steps done, two steps in today's promises, and the path so far: each finished step with its date

for your own life

Small steps. Real goals.

Work always comes with a deadline; your own goals almost never do, so they keep slipping to someday. todao gives them a space of their own: break a goal into steps you can finish in a day, and every finished step stays on its path with a date, so progress you would never notice becomes visible.

Did something worthwhile that wasn't planned? Log it on the day it happened, and your history stays accurate.

for work

Your day, not everyone else's.

At work everyone has a task for you, and the pile grows faster than any day can absorb. todao lets you commit only to what your record says you can finish today, and every other request waits in your Someday list.

Work keeps its own level, so a bad day at the office never drags down your personal goals.

your day

Your day has three parts.

The only productivity app that lets you sleep.

Promise07:00 – 13:00

The day opens with a look back at yesterday, then you choose today's tasks and set their priorities. Until 13:00 the plan can change; after that, your word stands.

Turn the wheel to explore each part. Change the hour you wake up, and the whole day moves with it: the app sets your phases the same way.

Questions and answers

What is todao?

An iPhone app that helps you finish what you plan: a few prioritized tasks each morning, an honest account each night. Over time it teaches you to promise less and deliver more.

How is it different from a to-do app?

A to-do app, Reminders included, collects tasks and lets them pile up. todao keeps your day small enough to finish: each day has a limit, each task has a priority, and settled days can't be rewritten.

Why not a paper notebook?

Paper gets one thing right: a page is small, and crossing things off feels good. todao keeps both. What paper can't do is remember: every morning todao shows what you didn't finish yesterday, and everything still undone waits in one list, in the order you choose, not scattered across old pages.

How many tasks can I take on my first day?

As many as you like; there's no need to guess your capacity. The next morning, what you actually finished becomes your level, up to 24 a day.

Why at most 24 tasks a day?

A day has fewer hours than the tasks you'd like to add. In eight working hours, 24 tasks already leave twenty minutes each, and todao is meant to let you stop and sleep. Beyond that, ambition means fewer tasks, done better or bigger.

What happens if I don't finish a task?

It counts against your day. Miss too much in one day, and your level in that part of life, work or personal, drops one step. That is the whole consequence: no shame, no broken streak.

Why does the app stop me in the evening?

By default the day ends at 21:00. You can still mark tasks done and plan tomorrow, but not start anything new. Knowing when to stop is part of the discipline.

What if I have no energy for a day?

Tap "Out of energy?". Your open tasks move to tomorrow as they are, and your level stays put. You earn this with honest days; it is never for sale.
